WHAT TO EXPECT
Creative South is a jam packed 3 day event that is filled with amazing talks by esteemed speakers from all over the world; hands on workshops conducted by leaders in the industry and of course after hour events that will have you asking yourself if sleep is really all that necessary. The entire weekend is fueled by copious amounts of caffeine and by sharing your passion, work, experience and life with others. Creative South takes place at the Springer Opera House in Columbus, GA. There is a large main stage where you will spend a lot of your time learning from people you admire in the industry and others you may not know but are a valid voice in the industry. We strongly encourage interacting with everyone. Our goal for every event is to make it feel as though you are walking, talking, drinking, eating, partying and goofing off among lifelong friends and unlike many conferences, that includes our speakers!
Our format changes slightly from year to year, but it would be safe to expect the conference to go a little something like below.
Thursday – Workshop Day. This day is reserved for those who have signed up for workshops. Workshops are sold individually and al a carte from the conference ticket. You can buy admittance into one workshop or all the workshops. Some may run simultaneously so pay attention to the workshop schedule when it is released and before you purchase. Seats are limited for workshops and go quickly so make sure to act fast. Workshops all have different subject matter and skill variance. A brief description will be offered to you before purchase. TIP: If you plan on attending workshops on Thursday, it is advised that out of town guests arrive Wednesday evening. Workshop day usually starts bright and early around 8am or 9am.
THURSDAY NIGHT-KICK OFF MIXER
Thursday Evening is the annual Creative South bridge party. Only Creative South participants will be admitted on the bridge. Please make sure to bring identification and/or your Creative South confirmation email for admittance. The bridge party will begin around 6pm the evening of April 6th. You DO NOT want to miss this party.
If you are under 21 at the time of the event, there will be an option for non-alcoholic drinks at each of the social events. Please bring proper ID.
(Note: You can check in for the conference at the Kick Off Mixer.)
Friday & Saturday-conference Days
Friday and Saturday are completely dedicated to our speakers. A speaker schedule will be released closer to the event. However speakers will speak back to back on the main stage at the Spring Opera House from approximately 9am-6pm in the evening. We will of course allow for breaks throughout the day for coffee, lunch, bathroom breaks etc.
Each year the conference takes on a different theme that permeates the content from our speakers, frames our parties, creates conversation, and meets the needs of our attendees! Let the "Adventure" begin in 2017!
(Note: You can check into the conference starting at 7AM each morning at the Springer.)
FRIDAY & saturday nights
Friday Evening will have a Creative South sponsored event. However, for now it is top secret. We've heard it is going to awesome, involved bands, and the entire city at some point!
Saturday Evening is a free night for our participants to explore the city. All official Creative South events will conclude after the last speaker on Saturday evening. By this time in the event each year, people have made friends and joined the family so there are little "mini-parties" going on all over Uptown Columbus. Gather your new best friend and hit the town!
Three years ago, several participants who came to Creative South decided to get together to worship on Sunday morning. They were going to be hanging out waiting for their return flights home, not able to attend their local church, and with those they felt were family, so why not? What started as a small group has grown to such a large number that we are holding it in the Springer Opera House this year. It has become know as Creative By Design. While not an official part of the Creative South conference, it is made up of conference attendees. We hope that if you find yourself hanging out for one more day you will join the large local group along with the online attendees which reached 15,000 streaming last year for this amazing time of food, fun, worship, and learning. You can find out more about this here.
about columbus ga
Columbus, GA is located approx. 1.5 hours southwest of the Hartsfield – Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). Columbus is nestled alongside the Alabama state line separated by the Chattahoochee River. The river is now home to the longest urban white water rafting courses in an urban environment in the world. Raft, canoe, kayak, paddle board or just sit on the banks and take in the view of the river and the southern sunsets. Creative South happens along the river in what is called Uptown. Everything you need is easily within walking distance. If you don’t feel like getting your toes wet, then just feel free to zip line over the river to our neighbors stomping grounds in Phenix City, AL. Broadway, the main street through town, is home to great food, awesome bars, live entertainment, shopping and outdoor adventures. We hope to offer a free EXPLORE Columbus workshop on Thursday for those arriving early. You can also visit the Columbus Convention & Visitors Bureau site for more information. Also, don't forget to consider the Adventure ticket that gives you great discounts on the event and a few fun things to do all in one ticket purchase.
